Accessibility

Making a website accessible is an ongoing commitment and a necessary process of inclusion, which is why we have implemented some measures on the Gies website that can improve and increase web accessibility.

Access keys (keyboard shortcuts)

The main menu items, the search box, and even this page have been added to the access keys, allowing you to access resources using just your keyboard.
The access keys are provided below.

How to Use Access Keys from Browsers

As often happens in the web world, each browser has its own rules and specific methods for performing certain operations. The following table will help you understand how to use shortcuts based on the characteristics of your device and your preferred browser.

Guide to using access keys

Operating SystemBrowserShortcut
Windows / LinuxFirefox ALT + SHIFT + Access Key
WindowsChromeHold down the ALT key and simultaneously type the Access Key
WindowsExplorer (6 and above)Hold down the ALT key and press the Access Key. Release both keys and press Enter
Mac OS XFirefox (2 and above)Hold down the CTRL + option keys and type the Access Key at the same time
Mac OS XSafariHold down the CTRL + option keys and type the Access Key at the same time

High contrast and better readability site mode

Other accessibility measures include those aimed at adaptability, even for users without modern assistive technologies. We have tried to ensure that content is displayed and adapted in the most appropriate way for the user, and wherever possible without compromising the usability of the site itself.

For this reason, three links have been inserted in the footer that allow you to:

  • Switch to a high-contrast version of the site
  • Enlarge text
  • Shrink text

Improvement interventions for dyslexic users

To facilitate reading for dyslexic users, in addition to the previously listed changes to variable text sizes, we chose to:

  • Apply a background that is not pure white
  • Use unjustified text
  • Integrate a highly legible font (Open Dyslexic Font), which can be activated by the user

Report any problems to us

We do our best to make our site accessible to as many users as possible. However, if you encounter any problems, please let us know in detail so we can intervene and make any necessary corrections.
